About National Service Scheme
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. At present, Akal University with 07 NSS units has been organizing various NSS activities in University Campus and its 07 adopted villages in Bathinda district.
Aim of NSS
The motto of the National Service Scheme is NOT ME BUT YOU.
Advantages of Serving as an NSS Volunteer
A NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would have the exposure and experience to be the following:
- an accomplished social leader
- an efficient administrator
- a person who understands human nature
Classification of NSS Activities
NSS activities have been divided into two major groups. These are regular NSS activities and special camping programmes.
- Regular NSS Activities: Under this, students undertake various programmes in the adopted villages, college/school/university campuses and urban slums during weekends or after college hours. Duration of these services is 120 hours.
- Special Camping Programme: Under this, camps of 7 days duration are organised in adopted villages or urban slums during vacations with some specific projects involving local communities. 50% NSS volunteers are expected to participate in these camps.
Certification
NSS also provides A, B, and C certificates for its volunteers based on their level of participation and contribution. Here are the conditions for earning each certificate:
