The Department of English Studies reflects the expansion, diversification and confluences at both the institutional level as well as in the dynamic disciplinary fields of literary and cultural studies and linguistics. The objective of the Department is to teach focused courses in these core areas at undergraduate and masters levels, and also develop a well-focused research program. The main emphasis is to inculcate in the students a sense of professionalism, as part of a discipline, with skills and abilities valuable in teaching, research, publishing and management studies. Further, the Department aims to give students a sense of themselves as citizens of a larger community by encouraging participation in service of learning. Currently, the Department offers Ph.D. in English Studies and Linguistics, M.A. in English and B.A. (Honors) in English. These programs have also come to the limelight for their unique design and relevance in the contemporary Indian as well as the international literary scenario.

The duration of M.A. program is four semesters. It enables students to develop a holistic understanding of language and literatures in English. It also introduces the students to the tools of research and broadens their critical sensibilities. Further, it equips them for career opportunities as well as for further research.
The Department also offers Ph.D. program in various research areas of language sciences, literary and cultural studies, and also interdisciplinary areas that influence language and scoiety.
The Department has highly competent and efficient faculty members with diversity of research interests. The faculty of English Studies has various national and international research collaborations. To enhance the competency of the students, in addition to the classroom lectures, the Department also utilizes seminars, workshops and invited lectures as integral part of academic programme.
The Department also provides acute mentoring of the students both in and beyond the classroom in a wide variety of forums. These activities promote a healthy holistic development of the student. Moreover, the Department has a club “AN EXTENDED HAND” for helping the weak students in improving their English language skills. As an extension of this initiative, to provide a platform to students for mutual exchange of ideas, knowledge and skills, the Department has also started the programme “WE WILL”.
