Zoology

The Department of Zoology is a constituent entity of the Faculty of Science, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo. Since its inception in 2015, the Department is well equipped with teaching and research laboratories. At present, the department offers two years M.Sc. & three year B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Zoology. The Department of Zoology also offers Ph.D. programmes in various research areas of Applied Zoology. There are separate laboratories for under-graduate students and post-graduate students. A specialized laboratories for research students as per the specific needs of the various thrust areas of research including Cell and Animal Physiology, Fish Taxonomy and Aquatic Biology, Fish Ecology, Fish Toxicology, Fish Population Dynamics, Cytogenetics, Entomology & Parasitology is also available. The Zoological Society, is actively involved in promoting academic and co-curricular activities for students like Poster and Model Making, Quiz Competition, Rangoli Competition, Debate Competition etc.

Department has highly competent and efficient faculty members with diversity of research interests. The motto of the Department is to promote the quality education and establishment of high standards in the field of education and research. In addition to teaching through modern proficiencies, the seminars, workshops and invited lectures are also an integral part of academic programme of the department.

Department has well equipped Laboratories for UG and PG classes. The main aim of these laboratories is to expose students to experimental techniques in cell and developmental biology, ecology, fisheries, entomology and physiology.
